On A Bench
There’s some shade along the way
Cicadas ringing through the trees
They call to each other in turn
Heat of the day is still in the air
Feel it in my nostrils
It blows it’s hot breath into me
Push my body through it
Tension is relief
A bench in the shade along the way
See the wind blowing
But I don’t feel cooled or comforted
Don’t feel anything at all
Dad was supposed to be here
But mom couldn’t let him go
I didn’t argue
If you sit anywhere long enough
Ants will find your toes
